Pop culture is going to see a helluva year as far as movies go in 2016, but we cannot overlook the music either.
It almost feels like we’re heading back to the 1990’s this year. Here are some albums to look forward to:
TOOL – This is still mostly in the anticipation phase of whether or not it will actually be released, but the story goes that Tool have been working on an album pretty quietly over the past year, and at a Halloween gig they played a little bit of a new song. Adam Jones confirmed that it was a preview, but we’re still waiting on anything beyond that. Fingers crossed!
NINE INCH NAILS – On December 18th Trent Reznor Tweeted that new NIN is coming in 2016. As well as some other things. No word on what the other things are or exactly when the new NIN is to be expected, but it is at least confirmed.
DEFTONES – Chino Moreno was interviewed a few months ago confirming that a new Deftones album would be ready for an early 2016 release, and there will be a guest appearance from Jerry Cantrell. Sweet!
SMASHING PUMPKINS – I still find it hard to call them the Smashing Pumpkins because now it feels like Billy Corgan and the not-so Funky Bunch (minus Jimmy Chamberlain). Either way, “Day For Night” was supposed to be released last year but Corgan had reworked it over the summer and it should be the light of day by mid-2016.
RADIOHEAD – More computers and falsettos.
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS – The Peppers announced late 2014 that they were headed back tot eh studio and had over 30 songs written for a new album. It must have taken them awhile to decide on what songs to include on it, but we will get the first single by early-February.
SOUNDGARDEN – Chris Cornell just likes to keep busy, doesn’t he? We all benefit from it though. Kim Thayil said that the new Soundgarden album is expected for sometime mid to late 2016.
ALICE IN CHAINS – AIC got back in the studio this past Summer and should have their new album out just in time for this year’s Summer.
What albums are you looking forward to this year?
