Attendance support workers will be hired at schools across Nova Scotia for a pilot project that aims to decrease the number of students cutting class.

The Council to Improve Classroom Conditions will spend $1.9 million over the next 2 years to hire 14 people. The goal is to give teachers extra support while also finding solutions to get kids back in the classroom.

Nova Scotians can expect to hear about the province’s marijuana plan by the end of the year. Cannabis is expected to be legalized across the country by Canada Day of next year. The federal government has set the minimum age of cannabis consumption to 18 but every province will be able to decide if the age should be higher.

Nova Scotia is expanding treatment for opioid addicts. Yesterday the Liberal government outlined how it will spend $800,000 every year at a dozen treatment centres throughout the province. The centres will provide antidote kits for overdoses & make referrals to family doctors for ongoing treatment.
