-A 20-year-old Cole Harbour, N.S., man has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a child at a Halifax daycare last month.


Police received a report on August 22nd that a man working at Kids & Company daycare, located on Barrington Street in north-end Halifax, touched one of the children in a sexual manner earlier in the day. 

Police said in a news release that the man was suspended from the daycare the same day. Police have not disclosed the age or gender of the child to protect their identity.

20-year-old Mitchell Casavechia  faces one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference. He turned himself in last Thursday and is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court Oct. 26.





-The IWK Health Centre’s chief financial officer is taking a paid leave from his job and the hospital’s board has contacted Nova Scotia’s auditor general, the latest in the fallout from the expense scandal at the children’s hospital.

Stephen D’Arcy, is taking a break from his duties.

CEO Tracy Kitch resigned from her post less than a month ago before the results of an independent review showed she had used her corporate credit card to pay for thousands of dollars in personal expenses. She still owes more than $22,000.
