The Coast asked the Halifax Regional Police about their tweeting habits. The reply provided them with more information than they hoped for. In response to the request communications adviser, Cindy Bayers, emailed the newspaper a copy of the police department’s Social Media Monitoring Manual.
That document contains all the guidelines the department is to follow regarding Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts. The only problem is that they also shared the usernames and passwords to all these sites. A mistake the department was not aware of until The Coast informed them.
