Cliff Burton is being recognized by his hometown with his own day.
His hometown of Castro Valley, California has declared Feb. 10th to be “Cliff Burton Day” thanks to a successful Change.org petition. Cliff performed in local bands like EZ Street and Agents of Misfortune, which led him to play with Trauma and, eventually, Metallica.
Burton died in a bus accident at the age of 24 when Metallica were touring Europe in support of Master of Puppets.
His father, Ray, has remained an important part of the Metallica camp and last summer, he revealed he had been using his son’s royalties to establish scholarship opportunities for kids at Castro Valley High School.
Metallica tweeted out this photo:
IT’S OFFICIAL! The Board of Supervisors from Alameda County has just proclaimed February 10, 2018, which would have been Cliff’s 56th birthday, “Cliff Burton Day.” Thanks to all of the fans who got behind this initiative. We love that he remains so revered. pic.twitter.com/Qxy0yFptSS
