In a release Monday, the HRM gave five names for people to vote on for the two replacement harbour ferries.
The choices are:
Vincent Coleman – Coleman was a dispatcher during the Halifax Explosion, he stayed behind to warn an inbound train. His actions saved lives, while costing him his own
Rita Joe – Shewas born and spent her childhood on a Mi’kmaq reserve at Whycocomagh on Cape Breton Island. She has been referred to as the “poet laureate” of the Mi’kmaq people.
Dr. Burnley “Rocky” Jones – He was a prominent member of the local African Nova Scotian Community and an internationally known political activist.
Raymond Taavel – Remembered for his tireless advocacy in the advancement of LGBT rights locally and nationally.
Ruth Goldbloom – she lead a number of charitable causes in Halifax, her fund raising led to the creation of the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21.
