The neigbourhood of Artisan Gardens in Chemainus, B.C. has made a bold decision.
They passed a bylaw, by a 15-4 vote that their streets are for traffic only.
No playing allowed!
The law reads: “Any use of a roadway for any purpose other than access to and from strata lots and, where permitted, for parking is prohibited. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, a roadway may not be used for play, including hockey, baseball, basketball, skateboarding, chalk artistry, bicycling or other sports and recreational activities.”
This is a surprising move , considering most people say kids need to be out side more.
Walking is considered a recreational activity, so by letter of the law you can’t walk in Artisan Gardens anymore!
Do the expect the residents to hover around?
