Pet Mouse Saved From Heroine Overdose

A volunteer with the Overdose Prevention Society  in Vancouver sprung into action when a woman showed up with a pet mouse, saying it had eaten heroin.

The animal was “pretty comatose,” barely moving and barely breathing. Since the mouse was so tiny, injecting the overdose-reversing drug naloxone wasn’t an option. So she put some on her finger and the mouse licked it.

The volunteer, a pharmacy student, happened to be recovering from pneumonia so was carrying a small oxygen tank with her at the time. So she used a very low dose of it against the mouse’s nose and it came around.
